Systems Biology studies biological phenomena in a systemic perspective. According to this perspective, properties and behaviors of organisms, at each level, are analyzed in terms of mathematical systems. These systems, although based on physical, chemical, and biological laws, obey to internal logics which are, very often, independent from the specific reality of their components. The mathematical and computational analyses of such systems, with their in silico simulations, is one of the most promising approaches for the comprehension of life phenomena.
